An hour drive away to an extremely long running fest. I am deeply grateful to them for having me, and I realized I haven’t really done a self indulgent post about it yet, so now seems like the right time.

I have found that the shows I feel the most nervous about tend to be the ones that go over the best, and my anxiety about this show should have indicated that it would be one of the best live performances in the history of time. While I don’t think it was that, at all, it was still something that even I feel comfortable calling a legitimate success. The response was, and still is, truly surreal. To see people moving and smiling and genuinely enjoying themselves was in and of itself so deeply validating to the work that I have been putting in to creating MEGAFAUNA and I can not say enough how grateful I am.

The closest thing I can compare it to is my brief foray into stand up comedy. Making people laugh and making people dance feels similarly satisfying. The feedback loop is unlike anything else, and it really makes you want to make them laugh harder, dancer harder, feel harder. There’s an undeniable intoxicating factor to it.

Of course, the anxious build up and the crash afterwards are not as much fun, but you kind of accept and forget that part in order to go chasing after the feeling again.

I was privileged to share a stage with Half/Asian + Amy The Coda, Lunaflora, Deathanol, and DJ Gobe - all of whom are tremendous and you should immediately check out - and everyone was extremely kind and supportive.

If you were there, thank you. Sincerely. Music has been so cathartic and healing for me, and being able to share it and maybe even to share the feeling means the world to me.

Hopefully we’ll see you at more festivals next summer.

Episode 102 of Syrup Moose Radio is here.
