Alright, here it is, the very first The Mire, The Marsh here on the home site. <\/span>

For those who don\u2019t know - this was a very lightly read monthly newsletter and I decided to consolidate my web presences and now its here. Every month I\u2019ll let you know what I\u2019ve been up to in my artistic pursuits, share the music I\u2019ve been listening to, and ramble on like this for a paragraph or two at the beginning. The aim is to have one released on the first of each month. I\u2019ve been doing pretty well with that timeline honestly.<\/span><\/p>

Music Releases\/Announcements\/Updates:<\/strong><\/p>

Some of you will know I released an\u00a0<\/span>EP with Homesick Ghosts<\/span><\/a>\u00a0on August 1st, but that wasn\u2019t the end of my musical output for August. I featured on, and released via\u00a0<\/span>What Even Is This?<\/span><\/a>, a compilation called\u00a0<\/span>What Even Is This? Vol. I.<\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/em>The compilation features contributors to WEIT up to May of 2025, and any money that it makes will be\u00a0<\/span>privately donated<\/strong>\u00a0to the Northwest Animal Shelter in Smithers, BC. It\u2019s a fun and extremely bizarre mix of music, and I am positive you\u2019ll like it.<\/span><\/p>

Further, I featured on the song \u201cCrows\u201d from the recent\u00a0<\/span>Ashen Pall EP\u00a0<\/span>False Idol, Hollow Crown<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0<\/em>The EP is fucking great, and it is a sincere privilege to be a part of it.<\/span><\/p>

The only other thing to mention music-wise is that I decided to push back the release of the next Grumm Trencher project,\u00a0<\/span>The Bat and the Hellebore<\/em>, to 2026. I really have no idea how many people will be disappointed by this news, if any, but I just wanted folks to know if they were wondering.<\/span><\/p>

At the moment, I am planning a new Grumm Trencher, MEGAFAUNA, and VNRL record for 2026 so \u2026 pray for me. I will share with you an extremely redacted sneak peek of said VNRL project. I\u2019ll announce more about it in January and for now just leave you with this deeply misleading image:<\/span><\/p>

\"7endqvtedr9rvwh2mkrrvn07dzbwf8xr1q4j2r3tipghaayu.png.jpg?w=1140&h=auto\"Syrup Moose Records\u00a0<\/strong>continues to trudge along at its typical slow pace, and for that I can only really apologize. J-cards for the final tape orders have been ordered and are en-route. So you can expect to see updates on that. I\u2019m still hoping to be done with tapes by the end of the year, but life happens and things slow down. You can still\u00a0<\/span>get the moving mystery box<\/span><\/a>\u00a0- and honestly I would be supremely grateful if you did. It\u2019s the only thing in the SMR merch store right now, so you can\u2019t miss it. While my hope is still to return in some form in 2026, right now things are still up in the air and only time will tell.<\/span><\/p>

The segue here is that we\u2019ve recently welcomed a new tiny bean into our home. Someone found her in the bushes in my small town and dropped her off at my office, and so now she lives with us. She\u2019s an extremely delightful little creature, and we\u2019ve broken our pets naming convention to give her the name Amelia - after the lost pilot. She really is tremendous and we\u2019re thrilled to have her.<\/span><\/p>

\"xahznmtd4huslol8ejnlzwkkx5n9ffekhxaqkqkrbahvkqdt.png.jpg?w=1140&h=auto\"On the topic of personal life stuff, my wife and I have recently purchased our first home - which is \u2026 truly insane. That said, we\u2019ve been doing some work on our bathroom which has been exciting and exhausting, and we\u2019re going to be moved in by the end of September. What that means is that - as always - things might be slow to move and for that I apologize. I\u2019m working on keeping all of my balls in the air and my plates spinning but I\u2019ve got to keep my eye on getting out of our rental this month so forgive me if I\u2019m a bit slower than usual.<\/span><\/p>

We are both thrilled and terrified to take on this chapter of our lives, and the gratitude we owe our families for their help is beyond what we can even begin to say.<\/span><\/p>

Honestly, August was not a huge month for me music-listen-wise, and of course Last FM is not a perfect record but WHATEVER. Honestly, I\u2019m as surprised as anyone that that Three Days Grace record is there, but it was a decent listen and I had fun with it. The Dropout Kings album is also a blast, and has\u00a0<\/span>one of my favourite lyrics of 2025 in it<\/span><\/a>. I\u2019ll never understand why LastFM seems to track the albums\/artists I\u2019ve listened to fine, but the number of songs I listened to never seems quite right. Whatever.<\/span><\/p>
