Yesterday, I received an e-mail from the Prince Rupert City & Regional Archives requesting copies of SKULK to be preserved as a snapshot of the art and culture of our current time. This is maybe one of the coolest requests I have ever received, and I had to share it with you all. I will be sending off copies of the first issue and also copies of each issue that we release.
So, what does that mean exactly, well - let me share with you the mandate of the PRCRA from their website:
The mandate of the Prince Rupert City & Regional Archives is to acquire, preserve, and make accessible records of enduring value that document the history and culture of Prince Rupert, Port Edward, Port Essington, Lax Kw'alaams (Port Simpson), Metlakatla, Haida Gwaii, Anyox, Dodge Cove, and the surrounding North Coast of British Columbia.
What this means is that the art submitted to SKULK will be preserved as “records of enduring value” for future generations. A lasting imprint from the artists who are included.
Personally, I think this is a huge deal, and I am really excited.
I hope this also incentivizes folks to submit their work.
